We try to anticipate questions you might have about our PRODUCT / SERVICE and provide the answers here. If you need additional information please call 925-465-9553 (Concord), 650-525-1819 (San Mateo), or email us at info@shredcenter.com.
1. How much does it cost to shred?
We charge $20 per cubic foot of paper to be shredded. That works out to approximately 70 cents per pound for comparison purposes. We do not weigh your paper--we measure it by volume.
MINIMUM CHARGE IS $1; WE MEASURE WHAT YOU HAVE AND CHARGE YOU ACCORDINGLY IN $1 INCREMENTS.
For non-paper material, such as photos, CDs, DVDs, floppy disks, and clothing, we charge $40 per cubic foot (approx. $1.40 per pound).
Mixed loads will be charged at the higher rate, so please keep paper and non-paper material separate to minimize your cost.
HARD DRIVES ARE CRUSHED AND THE RATE IS $20 EACH.
2. May we watch everything being shredded?
Absolutely YES!!!
3. How long does it take to shred?
It takes about 2 minutes per cubic foot.
4. How much is a cubic foot?
A cubic foot is 1728 cubic inches. If you measure your stack of paper (length x width x height in inches) and divide by 1728, your answer will be in cubic feet. Multiply that by the price per cubic foot, and you have the cost of shredding that stack.
5. How much would a "Banker's Box" of paper cost to shred?
A standard banker's box is 15 x 12 x 10 inches (1800 cu. in.) and we treat that as 1 cubic foot.
6. What if I bring my stuff in a garbage bag?
No problem, we'll measure it and come to an agreement on price per bags, boxes, and containers of any size. One VERY IMPORTANT piece of advice: PLEASE DO NOT OVERFILL BAGS, BOXES, OR CONTAINERS! Only fill what you can EASILY lift in and out of your vehicle - life's too short for a bad back!
7. What's the best way to transport my paper to Shred Center?
The best way is the way that is most convenient for you. We have found that using paper grocery bags (which most people have around the house) is a very easy way to transport paper. Depending on the size of the bag, shredding the contents usually costs between $10--$14 per bag. If you already have your paper in a box or bag, just bring it in and you can always take your boxes, bags, or containers back home if you like.
